THE PURSUIT OF PURPOSE
Next in line to self-discovery purpose discovery. This is having a knowledge of what you are meant to be and what you’re meant to do, to live a fulfilled life. I’ll say finding your purpose is finding your calling. Now a lot of people just want to arrive at a very destination, they want to have it all work out for good for them, they want to be great, but without a knowledge of their purpose, they can never achieve that, it is all tantamount to day dreaming.
They say, “You cannot feature in a future you cannot picture”. This is true for everyone who cannot figure out, who they are, who they are meant to be, what they are meant to be and what they are meant to do, to live a fulfilled life. A fulfilled life is a life of purpose.
How you go about the fulfilment of your purpose is what we term as the pursuit of purpose.
Life is a process of time, you can never jump steps and expect to arrive at “the expected end”, and you have to follow due process. Every stage in life comes with a responsibility and each of those stages are like classes, if you don’t pass successfully in any of the classes, you cannot proceed to the next. Ever wondered why we have a lot of immature adults, that’s because they have failed to pass the stage of childhood one way or the other, even though they have advanced in age, they remain babies in things of wisdom and understanding.
If you do not pass the stage of self-discovery, you cannot go to the stage of purpose discovery. Now you cannot know who you are outside the scope of who made you, neither can you discover your purpose outside the manual of your maker. A lot of people rely on their own wisdom to try to find out who they are and what they are meant to be, such knowledge doesn’t exist outside God, who really made you. God is a loving father and he has made everything and everyone well. He also speaks to us, the best way we can understand, but we fail to communicate with him. For some people, that’s because they don’t know him, for other, they simply just know about him, and for other, they think they are wiser.
The bible helps us to understand that He knew us, even before we were conceived or born.
The word of the LORD came to me:
I chose you before I formed you in the womb;
I set you apart before you were born.
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.
Jeremiah 1:4-5 (HCSB)
So, if He knew us, even before we were formed or born, he certainly has the best plans for us, and He confirmed that to us also, in His word.
For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the LORD’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope
Jeremiah 29:11(HCSB)
So it essential for us to ask God, but you need to know God, not just knowing about God, which is the case with most people. Knowing God, transcends the level of just having a knowledge of who he is, it stems into knowing by revelation, which comes from an intimate fellowship with His Spirit. Now this is a privilege only those who are his children, those who are sons can enjoy. Being a child of God is simple, accepting the Lordship and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, that’s the only way. If you’re not His child, if you’re not a son, you’re just another of his creation, that’s not something we want, right, we want the right, to call God our Father. So having a serious relationship with God and through Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, guarantees you a knowledge of yourself and your purpose. When you fellowship with God in worship and in prayers and through His word, he begins to speak to you, a conversation is inevitable, I know this because, He speaks to him and I speak to Him too.
He also doesn’t want us to depend absolutely on our own understanding, he needs us to depend on him, and after all, He created us. Having to go through life on the oasis of our own wisdom and understanding is quite stressful and tiring, it leads to frustration and fruitlessness. You get exhausted emotionally, spiritually, financially and in many other ways. What an unprosperous adventure that it. That is why he want to go the journey of life with us, since He created us and all things, he’s able to guide us through the twists and turns, the ups and downs of life.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
think about Him in all your ways,
and He will guide you on the right paths.
Don’t consider yourself to be wise;
fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
This will be healing for your body
and strengthening for your bones.
Honor the LORD with your possessions
and with the first produce of your entire harvest;
then your barns will be completely filled,
and your vats will overflow with new wine.
Do not despise the LORD’s instruction, my son,
and do not loathe His discipline;
for the LORD disciplines the one He loves,
just as a father, the son he delights in.
Proverbs 3:5-12(HCSB)
You can see from here the numerous benefits that are attached to trusting the Lord with our lives. The expected end he has for us comes into fulfillment.
